Re-manufacturing of power transmission components:
Linn Gear Co. assists many companies across the country in
replacing gears and sprockets that are broken, worn out, or
of unknown specifications.
Many times a replacement part cannot be obtained from the original
manufacturer because that company is unknown or no longer in business.
Other times OEM's are unable or unwilling to provide replacements
in a timely or economic manner.
We have developed the process of using product samples, sketches
and descriptions to identify the defining elements of sprockets and
gears to a high degree. By applying an extensive base of
knowledge, experience and equipment, we are able to manufacture
replacement parts for many kinds of machinery.
Our experience with the manufacturing of these kinds of products,
coupled with mathematical expertise and an array of precision
measuring devices, give us a very high success rate in this
re-manufacturing process.
Linn Gear employees often have to work like detectives to
methodically create a complete description of a part due to the nature of
the materials we are given to work with. Parts come to us in many forms.
Some have been run until there is little left of them. Others are broken
into pieces or have lost some or all of their teeth through a
catastrophic failure.
In other instances customers will submit "drawings" of the parts they
need. These can range anywhere from clear and detailed engineered
drawings to garbled faxes or hand drawn sketches on scraps of
cardboard. In extreme cases we have successfully produced replacements
from outlines of teeth scribed on sheets of metal or imprinted on
cardboard with grease.
Of course, the better the information we have to go on when we reproduce a
part, the better the chances that the end user will be satisfied with its
performance in application. The more extreme the circumstances, the
more cost and risk are incurred.
The success or failure of an attempt to remanufacture a sprocket
or gear often hinges on the cooperative efforts of the customer and
our people. We frequently require measurements from chains, mating
gears, shafts, and from the machinery the parts will ultimately be
installed in. Mating parts may have to be shipped to us even though
they do not need to be replaced. Owners of equipment may need to
take measurements of their machinery to assist in the identification
process.
Through this kind of cooperative effort we can accomplish deeds that
seem like small miracles. In reality they can save companies
thousands of dollars.
